We’re thrilled to introduce Disc Rescue Network 2.0, the most significant update in our platform’s history. This release isn’t just about bug fixes or minor tweaks - it’s a complete overhaul of the Player Application and Course Management Application, designed to make Disc Rescue Network faster, smarter, and more intuitive for everyone in the disc golf community.
In building this update, we asked ourselves a fundamental question:
“How can we make every interaction - from reporting a lost disc to managing course pickups - simpler, faster, and more reliable?”
The result is a completely redesigned Player Application, a more powerful Course Management Application, smarter notifications, and enhanced Vision AI. Let’s dive into the core changes and why they matter.
A Complete Visual Redesign: Player Application, Reimagined
The first thing you’ll notice is the entirely new look and feel of the Player Application. This wasn’t cosmetic - it was about clarity, usability, and trust.
- Why it matters: Lost discs are stressful. Players shouldn’t have to navigate confusing flows to report a disc or track a claim. The new UI is intuitive and visually organized, so users can quickly find exactly what they need.
- Key improvements:
- Streamlined claim submission with clear prompts and confirmations.
- Check Claim Status functionality front and center, reducing uncertainty.
- Improved text flows and confirmations, so players always know what’s happening with their claim.
- The impact: Players spend less time clicking, more time enjoying the game, and always feel in control of their claims.
Empowering Courses: The New Course Management Application
Courses are the backbone of Disc Rescue Network, and we’ve completely rebuilt the Course Management Application to support the people who make disc recovery possible.
- Why it matters: Courses were previously limited by scattered tools and unclear notifications. Admins needed a single place to manage pickups, communication, and course information.
- Key improvements:
- Pickup Windows and Preferences: Flexible scheduling for one-time or recurring pickups, with fallback options for maximum coverage.
- Bulletin Board & FAQ: Courses can communicate directly with players, reducing confusion and repetitive questions.
- Course Settings: Update claim periods, contact info, logos, and social links from one central dashboard.
- The impact: Courses can now run operations efficiently, respond faster, and communicate clearly with players, reducing errors and frustration.
Smarter Claims and Notifications
Handling lost discs is only useful if the right people know about them - and know when action is needed.
- Why it matters: Notifications were previously reactive, often leaving admins unsure which claims were urgent.
- Key improvements:
- New CLAIM_REVIEW status: Identify discs that need immediate attention.
- Action-driven notifications: When an admin schedules a pickup, related alerts are automatically cleared - no manual tracking needed.
- Daily and weekly summaries: Admins receive overviews of “today’s pickups” and weekly course activity.
- The impact: Admins are always in the loop, with less manual tracking and fewer missed pickups.
Vision AI: Smarter, Faster, and More Accurate
Our Vision AI, already a cornerstone of disc identification, has been significantly upgraded.
- Why it matters: Accurate disc recognition saves hours of manual work and reduces errors in recovery.
- Key improvements:
- Improved recognition models for better accuracy in identifying discs.
- Testing mode available in the Vision AI tab for controlled evaluations before rolling out bulk mode.
- The impact: Faster, more reliable automation, allowing courses and players to focus on the game instead of logistics.
Thoughtful User-Centric Improvements
Beyond the big features, we made hundreds of subtle improvements based on player and course feedback:
- Performance upgrades: Faster load times and smoother navigation.
- Multiple bug fixes: Resolving reported issues to ensure stability.
- Improved course onboarding: Courses can get started faster, with fewer questions or errors.
Every change, big or small, was guided by one principle: make the system more intuitive, more reliable, and more helpful for the people who rely on it.
